Divorced in 2012 after 16 years of marriage, Newbury Park resident Mira Reverente was staring down a mountain of debt with no way to climb it.
Her part-time job writing articles for a local magazine didn’t pay enough to cover her expenses, let alone those of her two children, a boy, 14, and a girl, 8. Child support helped at first, but when her ex-husband lost his job, the payments stopped.
It was either turn for help or help herself. Reverente chose the latter.
“I really had to hustle,” she said. “I made a list of priorities and thought, ‘I’m going to get through this.’”
And she did.
